Summer is a great time along the shores of magnificent Chedabucto Bay. Our cellar keeper has been busy matching fresh whites to the bounty of the Bay and delicious reds for barbeques on the Manor grounds. Four of our favourites for summer entertaining include the affordable Gancia Prosecco, a dry sparkling wine from Italy, Caymus’ Conundrum, a blended white from California, Peacock Ridge Merlot from South Africa, and the Pelee Island Pinot Noir Reserve from southern Ontario.
We found the Gancia Prosecco to be the perfect summer wine with delicious overtones of citrus, melon and lemon. Crisp and clean, it has just the right amount of bubbles which helps it match perfectly with seafood, salads and pastas. And if you combine the Gancia with peach juice (or whatever your favourite juice is), it makes a delicious Bellini for weekend brunch entertaining on the deck.
Caymus Conundrum has creamy texture and a long finish with layers of Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Canelli, Chardonnay and Viognier. We like Conundrum’s sophisticated fruit forward flavours for pairing with elegant summer menus or just summer drinking on the patio for a special occasion.
The Peacock Ridge Merlot is a great wine for your backyard barbeques and is also wonderful to drink on its own while you wait for the barbeque. Like the great outdoors on Chedabucto Bay, this dense merlot has aromas of cedar wood and smoke, with black fruit, mocha, licorice and tar on the palate.
We enjoy the versatility of Pinot Noir and an affordable favourite at DesBarres Manor during the summer is the lighthearted offering from Pelee Island Winery. A perfect red for those hot August days, the Pelee Island Pinot Noir Reserve is a delightful accompaniment for grilled fish or meat.
We hope you enjoy these wines at home!
